Workshop Details:

Learn how to make your own earrings in this 4 hour workshop with metalsmith Ann Kathryn Kehoe. The workshop will be held at the Foundry Art Centre in St. Charles, MO, in studio 11.

What you will learn:

• how to use a jeweler’s saw to cut out designs from brass or sterling silver sheet

• how to use hammers & stamps to create texture & pattern

• how to use a drill press

• how to finish a piece using files & sand paper

• how to wire wrap beads using headpins

All tools needed for the workshop will be provided in the studio. With the materials included in this workshop cost, you’ll be able to explore new techniques & make up to three pairs of earrings. Please understand that each student will work at their own pace & will have differing capabilities. Although you will have enough materials for 3 pairs of earrings, most students make 1 or two pairs of earrings per 4 hour class. If you would like to work with sterling silver sheet instead of brass, this can be purchased separately & you’ll need to let me know. Silver is sold at market price & if you’re interested in working with it, let me know at least a week prior to your class so that I can order enough materials for everyone.

What you can expect

You’ll be working with a small jewelers saw, hammers, files & a drill press to make your own unique brass or sterling silver jewelry designs in this 4 hour workshop. Metalsmith & jewelry designer, Ann Kathryn, will guide you through the design process & assist you wherever needed throughout the workshop. Students are encouraged to try each technique demonstrated, however, you are free to apply whatever techniques appeal to you in your own designs. This classroom setting is geared towards community, playful exploration & guided learning- this is a safe, respectful environment & all are welcome. The tools used in this workshop are relatively safe, however, when improperly used they can cause injury. Please acknowledge that safety procedures will be followed & eye protection is mandatory (this will be provided). Additionally, please bring something to tie back long hair & wear close-toes shoes. Feel free to bring snacks or lunch.

Cancellation Policy

Private Workshops may be cancelled up to 10 days in advance for a full refund. If you would like to cancel your workshop between 9 & 3 days away from the date agreed upon, you will be refunded 75% of your payment. Cancellations within 48 hours of your workshop will be refunded 50%. No refunds will be given for cancellations the day of the workshop, including no-shows.

Rescheduling: If you would like to reschedule your workshop instead of canceling, you may do so at no penalty with at least one weeks notice. If you are within 7 days of the workshop date & would like to reschedule your workshop, I require a $50 rescheduling fee in order to book a new date. Please note, I require at least a 48hr notice for any rescheduling. If we cannot come to an agreement on a new date, you will be refunded based on the date I was notified of a reschedule & the transaction will default to the cancellation policy.
